i hear it shift under my bed
softly whispers financial advice
which I ponder when pillow mets head

should I buy stock in venus
should I sell my sock collection
is it worth it to trade my hopes and dreams
for financial protection

every morning
every evening
someone warns me
about believing, in you

one night I decide to check
so I peek my head over the side
I lean further still, until I can feel
its warm breath wash over my eyes

It’s a form quite grotesque
insect body long and lanky
with the head of Milton Friedman
and the eyes of Ben Bernanke

I slowly lean back into bed
the creature then begins to rise
it’s not too late, I know I’ll be safe
if it doesn’t see through my disguise
